Description: Dated by mark- 1912 to 1914. Green mark. Rare design. Plate measures 10" diameter and has pre-drilled holes with a wire hanger. The cobalt plate features incredible gold leaf pattern around the interior picture. Fine gold lines outline the outer edge. There is wear on the plate around the outer edge where thumbs would touch the plate. Can likely be cleaned. The fine gold enameling around the inner leaf decoration is the only gold loss. (50%) photos taken to show this. The hand painted woman is likely Josephine Schefsky, the most famous Bavarian opera singer of the time period. (The woman in the portrait is holding an operatic music sheet.) She passed away in 1912 and the plate was probably made to memorialize her. Very cool and rare piece of history.
