Description: A most beautiful sculptural oak wood Romanian Folk Art handcarved Laundry Board /Stick, made at the end of the 19th century in the traditional area of Hobita ( Gorj County). Such traditional handcrafted peasant tools were specific of the Romanian folk art of the Gorj area, and its incredible abstract proportions and geometry most certainly influenced famous sculptor Constantin Brancusi during his childhood in the area and his future works, most notably for his "Column of Infinity", denote the contact with his native folk artisans. This specific tool is a massive piece (75cm x 9cm x 8cm) of indestructible local oak, handcarved that most surely was used during laundry sessions at the river, a common practice for washing clothes during those times. The handle, its edges and proportions, angles denote delicate and visionary craftsmanship for its basic balanced modern shapes, almost to rang of art, as may be observed from the pictures. Still in good original condition after so many years. Will be packed and shipped with great care.
