One of the more groundbreaking achievements of the KPM factory in this early period was their development of a technique to create a light blue porcelain glaze. As well as the KPM trade mark, KPM pieces will also be painted with an imperial orb mark, coloured according to what type of decoration is on the piece. The Letter KPM can trace their ancestry back to 1763 when they were first used by the Konigliche Poorzellan Manufactur in Meissen. By 1825 the same letters were beginning to be used by the Royal Porcelain Manufactory in Berlin.
