Description: Framed Art Print by George Hitchcock titled “Flower Girl in Holland”. The visible area of the print is about 27.5" x 13.5" and the frame is about 31.5" x 17.5". Hand embellished with earth tones. The frame is molded plaster on wood. The frame has some plaster loss on the upper right corner and a bit on the bottom edge along with other minor antique wear and tear. The inside surface of the glass has some brownish-orange spotting and we recommend removing the work from the frame to clean that up before putting the work on display. We opted to leave that effort for the buyer. Please see photos. The original work was dated 1887 and this print was likely made in the later 1800s or early 1900s. Very nice antique print of a well-known work. After studying in London, Paris, and at the Hague, George Hitchcock (American)(1850–1913) settled in the Netherlands in 1884. He lived and worked for twenty years in Egmond. Attracted to the region’s landscape and peasant communities, the artist specialized in scenes featuring women in traditional dress. The original oil painting, 58" × 31-1/8", is in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.
