Antique Prattware Transferware Pottery Potted Meat Jars

Description: Antique Prattware Transferware Pottery Potted Meat Jars. This Prattware terracotta vase was made at the Fenton potteries of Felix and Richard Pratt of Stole-on-Trent in Staffordshire England. Although made in the last half of the 19th C and during Victorian times, the style and design of the jug relate to the Aesthetic Movement of Edwardian England. This was a time, when William Morris and his designs and work, were capturing the tastes of the time. It is made of red clay with an applied transfer print of a hunting scene. The hunters seem to be after a wild boar. The vase has a second ridge under the top rounded edge and this indicates that there might have been a cap or top that was held on with twine to secure the contents of the container. Was this originally a container for mustard or a type of meat paste? This charming jar is in good antique condition but please look at all the pictures to see for yourself. Just having a couple imperfections and wear due to age would be a dream for any collector. Stands 4” tall, 2.25” bottom diameter and 1.75” at the top.
