Description: #7-074 Today we're offering a stunning cider or lemonade jug (pitcher) with matching under plate, made by the Pickard China company of Chicago, USA, circa 1912-19. The gold leaf backstamp is on the bottom of both pieces as well as the mark of the company that produced the blanks, "Z.S. & Co." of Bavaria, 1880-1918. Both pieces are hand painted and signed by the artist, "Yeschek". Joseph Yeschek was born in the CZ Republic in 1866. After working for several other porcelain houses, he came to America in the early 1900's to work for Pickard. Pickard was known to use only the finest painters from all over Europe. This pattern is known as "Deserted Gardens" with hand painted berries, plums, grapes, blossoms, trees, bushes and shrubs completely surrounded by bright, shiny gold. The porcelain is bright white on the interior. Pickard pieces were always double-dipped, creating that heavy gold gilt that makes them so special. The jug stands 6.25" tall and is approx. 7.5" at it widest point. The mouth is 4 3/4" in diameter. The under plate measures 8.5" in diameter and displays the same garden motif around the rim. The center of the plate is entirely gold. Aside from some minor scratching to the gold, we don't find any chips, cracks or repairs. Around the rim of the under plate there are what look like tiny blisters under the glaze - we have tried to show them in the last picture. You don't notice them until you hold the plate at the right angle in the light. We don't know what might have caused that - perhaps it occurred during the production. * No hassle returns - buyer pays return shipping. Track Page Views With Auctiva's FREE Counter
