Description: This steel engraving features the Colossus Bridge over the Schuylkill River and is titled in German "die Grosse Brucke uber den Schuylkill". There is a red mat and a gold frame that measures about 11.5" wide x 10" high. The artist is J.G. Martini. According to information I found at the Masonic library, the bridge also was known as the Fairmount Bridge or the Upper Ferry Bridge and was designed by Louis Wernwag. It was built in 1812 and burned down in 1838 so this engraving was probably produced before then. The Spring Garden Street bridge now stands in its place.
