Description: Antique Japanese Nabeshima Ware Plate | Iris Flowers~Wisteria Tree~Hen & Rooster Nabeshima ware (鍋島焼, Nabeshima-yaki) is a type of Japanese pottery, production began around 1700, and continued until the late 19th century. Much of the wares were dishes for food. Animal and plant designs are popular. The technique also differs from that of most Japanese porcelain, with the outlines of the pattern done in underglaze blue before the overglaze “enamelled” final decoration. This plate is decorated with Iris Flowers, Cockscomb Flowers a WISTERIA TREE and a Hen & Rooster. This large plate, has scalloped edges and is very heavy weighing 2 pounds. It measures 10-1/2" across and stands 2" high and 4-3/4" across the foot rim. It is in excellent condition with no damage and no restoration.
