Description: Nabeshima style porcelains rank as the greatest of all Arita porcelains. The decorative motif is significant in that it incorporates only four colors, blue, red, yellow and green. This bowl, like all Nabneshima porcelains, was created with no intent of profit. It was created solely to be used as a gift by a feudal lord. Hence, they are the most prized, and collectible, of all the Arita porcelains today. Delicate lobed small bowl with scalloped pale yellow rim. Milky white ground with a four - color over-glaze floral motif of chrysanthemums and bleeding-heart flowers set among vines and leaves. The motif was first outlined in gold gilt then hand-painted in four colors. High foot rim, indicative of the Nabushima style with an unglazed base with with four-character kiln mark hand-on a recessed glazed center dating manufacture to sometime between 1897 and 1908 One 1 cm rim chip, as shown.
