Description: Vintage Hakata Urasaki doll, made from clay (bisque porcelain ningyo) and finely hand painted. Description: A sitting male in casual dress drinks from his sake cup, while holding the bottle. He has paused and glanced upward, possibly savoring the taste and deciding if this brew meets his approval. The artisan has chosen a paint palette of muted beige and grey tones, accented by the whiteness of polished finger and toe nails. A panache of a bronze tone ribbon adorns the bottle. Provenance: This is a hand made Hakata doll from the 1950's or 60s. The doll was made in Japan by Norcrest Fine China Company. (Original label is present.) These decorative sculptures were exported to customers in Europe and the USA. The previous owner was an American collector from California and this piece was acquired by us through an estate sale. Dimensions: 7.5" x 6.5" x 4.5" Condition: In excellent vintage condition. The doll shows some minor scuffing consistent with its age. There are no chips, and only a few spots of old dirt and dust. The underside indicates that the figure is "washable," in cold water, but we have been reluctant to do so since it is very attractive as is. Overall, this is a special piece and rare to be found in this well-preserved condition. Be well.
