Description: What this thing will do is give you the grade of a piece of ground. You look through the top hole, line up 2 little circular eyelets inside the level aiming at the horizon, and you get the grade. I'm sure there is a little more to it, but that's the basics. I tried to show what a view would look like but all I got was a little dot of light showing up. It has a clean clear viewing mechanism. The dial works freely. The vertical bubble is low on liquid and won't give an accurate reading. It also had a frozen adjustment screw that was a bit roughed up so I went ahead a freed that up. There is a tiny wood chip on 1 corner but otherwise the wood is in excellent condition. The finish is rough but it is 120 years old. Patented in 1904. It is made in Railroad Pa. and is not a railroad specific tool. Please email any questions or comments. Thank you.
