All molds are antique and show appropriate signs associated with age, usage, and patina as to be expected with utility objects over 100 years old. The 18 antique molds on offer are from a private collection of an estate acquired over fifty years by a New York antiques dealer. They have never before been seen or offered for sale to the public until now. They are all rare and special in their own way. The majority are from the firm of Benham & Froud and all are English from the Victorian era to the late Edwardian (1860 - 1920). In 1821 the original founder of the company won a contest to restore the orb and cross on top of the dome on St Paul’s Cathedral, London. Benham & Froud later adapted these two elements as their logo for copperware. It became their famous trademark of a cross resting on top of an orb. Their handmade copper items were of such quality that they were considered the Rolls-Royce of kitchenware. Using the finest quality copper crafted by hand with impressive weight, ridges, and turrets, B&F molds were the queen of the kitchen for festive puddings, cakes, and aspic jelly fit for a king. These molds now serve as collectors’ items to add personality and quality to decorate a kitchen. The inside lining originally was tin, please use only as display. The numbers on the side of the molds identify the pattern. Some other markings can indicate the owner or the workshop where the molds were originally designed and created. From 1873 to 1893 the firm commissioned the famous 19th cc Christopher Dresser to create a series of product designs which were so modern in concept that they are today often mistaken for Art Deco, a full thirty years ahead of their time.
