Direct from France, one of two highly carved antique prayer kneelers (or “prie dieu”) from our most recent container. The stunning panel back here features a hand carving of a Catholic cardinal, wearing period dress and a galero hat – supposedly it is Saint Jerome, with a carved lion on his right and carved Bible stand on his left. Additional full-length carvings on either side include dimensionally carved characters and scrolls. The slanted lower kneeler has a lift top for Bible storage inside, with carved beveled edges and large, carved paw feet on each side. Rare and hard to find; well-built and hand carved by craftsmen of the period, circa1880. Measurements: 38.25” ht. x 25.5” x 16.25”. NOTE: All of our antiques are direct from Europe.
