Description: Here is an extremely difficult to find clear example of the "Hexagonal" flint glass sugar bowl base (it actually has eight, rather than six paneled sides, but may be researched using the misnomer "Hexagonal"). This heavy and thick pattern glass sugar bowl is most likely very early production pattern glass dating in the 1850s. Several early companies, among them New England Glass, Boston and Sandwich and Wheeling Flint Glass produced heavy flint lidded sugar bowls with thick round pedestals and fluted stems. It stands 5 1/4" and has an internal lid seat diameter of 4 1/8". Maximum side point to side point diameter is approx. 5 3/4". This was made in a two-part mold, has a fluted stem, eight panels and a polished pontil. See final images for chips located on the lower edge of the top rim. There is very appropriate shelf and use wear to the bottom of the pedestal as seen in Image 4, and on top edge as seen in final image.
