Description: A large and impressive Yataghan with ear shaped grips, a gilt copper grip strap decorated with ribbed red corals and brass bolsters (a later replacement). The 22" well-forged blade is slightly down curving, has a single fuller and is decorated with silver inlay on one side and on the other side a series of chiseled panels containing old Turkish calligraphy. The chiseled side bears the date AH 1221 (1806 CE). The fabric-over-wood scabbard has a large brass locket and chape, both of which have chiseled calligraphy filled panels similar to those found on the chiseled side of the blade. Good condition.
