Description: Item DetailsAntique French Empire Ormolu Mantel Clock, circa 1820 Offers Welcome A very fine example of a French Empire double patinated bronze and marble clock depicting a nautical allegory. The classical figure depicting a captain stands on the clocks drum case against a rocky backdrop alongside an anchor. The figure of the captain has been finely chiselled. The clock demonstrates the finest quality of craftsmanship. To the front elevation, the clock features a white enamel dial with black hand painted Roman numerals and outer chapter indicating minute marks. The dial is encased within an ormolu beaded rim. This fine clock stands upon a rectangular base with bracket fee and swept plinth. The front elevation of the base features repoussé work with scroll work and is inlaid with white Carrara marble. The clock features an 8 day twin train silk suspended mechanical movement striking the hours and half on a bell and is regulated by a countwheel. The pendulum and winding key are present. Approximate dimensions: 39 cm high x 24 cm wide Approximate weight: 3642 Grams Condition: Overall, the clock is in good working condition. The ormolu is in good condition and retains a very good colour. There are some signs of age and usage to the dial close to the winding holes. Please note, whilst the clock currently works, during transport, all clocks are moved around a lot, and therefore, they may require setting up upon receiving them as well as the possibility of requiring professional assistance or a service as they can get 'stuck'. There is no guarantee that the clock will work smoothly after it has been transported. Please study the pictures and ask any questions that you may have.
