Description: This vintage cast iron cornbread skillet from BSR Birmingham Stove & Range is a great addition to any collection of cast iron. This Wedge Corn Bread Skillets is 9" diameter and approximately 1” deep. Birmingham Stove & Range can be credited as the first company to produce the popular cornbread skillet, a cast iron pan with eight wedges for individual pieces of cornbread. (This pan can also be used to bake cookies, brownies, and many other delightful foods.) The most notable identification mark for a BS&R cornbread skillet is the solid center of the pan. On the underside of the pan, there is an indentation to match the center of the pan. Lodge produced its own imitation of the cornbread skillet shortly after the original was introduced by BS&R; though they added a hole in the center of the pan. This pan with the “patent pending” was produced from 1967-through the early 1970’s. It has no cracks, scratches or pitting. It does have one area on the rim that is not rounded that is a casting flaw. It has had one seasoning so just continue to use or season. The pan sits flat. Markings on the bottom of the skillet include: "CORN BREAD SKILLET, PAT. PENDING".
