Description: Delightfully tactile coquilla nut shaped in the form of an egg and carved with swags and rosettes, early 19th century. It is an earlier and rarer form compared to the more commonly found coquilla nut egg which is pierced and carved with concentric circles and is usually described as a pomander or a thimble holder. This nut on the other hand is hand carved with a naïve design and unpierced. It possesses a nice colour and patina. Dimensions: 7 cm length x 4.3 cm width Condition: There is a repair using wood to some of the thread in the upper half of the egg. This allows the two halves to close tightly without coming apart.
