Description: Up for consideration is a Classical E.F. Caldwell signed French Louis XVI flush mount light fixture from the Benjamin Siegel Estate from the Boston Edison district in Detroit Michigan. The fixture measures 10 inches in diameter at the base with a height of about 9.5 inches. This single light fixture mounted on the celing and held a single bulb however it may have held an globular Art Glass Shade. It has draped linen pleats along with a Festoon of floral garlands. It sports it's original socket and is signed on the infamous liner that Caldwell used on a majority of there fixtures which helped seal the fixture in place. It was purchased from the Siegel Estate a 13,000 sq ft Estae with carriage house that was designed by Architect Albert Kahn. The previous owner who sold the estate liquidated the contents of the carriage house and basement and of which we were fortunate enough to be present. In reality we have 2 historical names to associate with the piece the provenance of the "B. Siegel & Co" a ladies and childrens fashion store started during the the 1880's and grew to 6 stores and of eventually closed in 1981. But man they were really something and were part of the Who's Who in the Midwest when Detroit was bumping and grinding out Automobiles......furthermore the E.F. Caldwell Co. of NY was the leading Lighting manfacturer's in US...since the turn of the Century and of which designed sketched out and cast special order lighting for the Uber wealthy and socialites in NY and across the United States...in fact the Smithonsian Institution has an online catalogue of their works for all to see. Their crew of designer traveled to the 4 corners of the earth studying architecture and looking for artifacts and ideas to use in their design room ...one could make and appointment and search through their vast catalogues and pick out what you wanted and or one could compose their own ideas and sketch out new designs building on their vast archive of materials...simply incredible...walk in....."Hello I am Mr. So and So and could you make these for me money is no object I want lion's faces and wings with .....I want them big I tell you big and don't skimp on the materilal I want them bronze....the Great Gatsby more or less." The piece probably had a threaded socket which in turn had a long threaded bar that mounted on junction connector hene threading into a box or bar straddling the rafters...this probably dates around the year 1924.
