Description: Presented is a lovely coin silver master butter knife from Gorham and Thurber. This piece has a great engraved pattern full of scrolls throughout the handle and down one side of the blade. The handle has a nice fiddle shape. There is a monogram within the engraved pattern, MEL, in flowing script. The piece has very worn marks that are less identifiable in the photos. With a loop, we were able to make out "pure coin" on the far right and Gorham & Thurber on the far left. We assume the middle mark says Providence. This piece was made between 1850-1852 as those are the years that Gorham and Thurber were in production. This piece is in great condition. There is a nice curve to the handle. Pattern details have worn a fair amount expect for the very top of the handle. Let the photos be your guide. The piece is free of any breaks or splits and there are no repairs.
