Antique c1840s-1860s Blue-Violet Quilted Changeant Silk Cape Bows & Trims Exc

Description: This antique silk cape that I am offering here is one of my favorite outdoor, cold weather garments. It features a sumptuous rich, soft silk of finest quality. The silk is the changeante type which shimmers and changes shades of color depending on the lighting or time of day it is. Deep blue figured silk ribbon, 2" wide decorate the lines of the cape and are folded into large, decorative bows. I listed measurements in the specifics section but also note that the neck measures 15". The cape or cloak is deceivingly warm. It is lightweight but not bulky while retaining beautiful shape and form. It is wide enough at the bottom hem to adapt to the various and changing widths of ladies' gowns in the mid-Victorian era. The inner lining of the cape features two different types of silk-- a shimmery beige from the neck & shoulders down, with a pre-quilted, rose silk on the front panels and along the hem. The entire cape has been filled with batting between the silks that cannot be seen, but may be cotton or thin wool for warmth. The deep V-shaped collar is sewn to the rest of the cloak and is not removable. There are no sleeves, but instead there are slits where one's arms would fit through. Gloves or a muff would be worn with the cape for added warmth. There are some areas in the lining that have some light scattered discoloration(fading) but there is no weakness to any of the silk fabrics and this piece has been beautifully lovingly preserved.
