Antique Art Hand Painted Heraldic Crest Knight Bear JANSEN, JOHNSON Grain Frame

Description: Up for sale is an antique Victorian style but unknown era hand painted illuminated lettered heraldic crest for Jansen (Johnson), in a grain painted frame, recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia PA area. The total art is 5x6.5 on paper 11x14". Crest with knight helmet with acanthus in gold and grey, bear with sword and crown. Best guess framed in the 50s or 60s,backing most likely acidic, per the period. Recommend new matting, beige or darker just to cover some of the paper, freshen it up. Your framer could touch up the frame with ease - but it is a classic grain painted frame for this kind of piece. 3/4" frame. Glass is quite dirty, 11x14". Stains on the backing paper, needs replacement anyway when getting new acid neutral matting/backing. Very nicely done. Gold, black, grey, red and silver. Unknown if true gold and silver paint - the engrossers often used the real deal back in the day. Fantastic, worthy of a new mat, backing and touching up - fantastic antique original art.
