Description: This is an antique Arita ware Imari enameled plate decorated with two phoenix birds, floral and scroll designs. Arita ware is also called Imari ware because the products of the Arita kiln were mainly shipped from a nearby port of Imari. Arita porcelains in the early days were typically made in the Chinese style of the period, with deep blue patterns on a white background. This is called "sometsuke" which means "Blue- and- White". Owning a piece of antique Aritaware is more than just acquiring a beautiful object; it's welcoming a piece of history and artistry into your home. There is a line in the back where a crack is forming but it does not appear on the front. I think this tells alot about the quality of the pottery used to create this plate. This is an old piece and has surface wear. This pattern has been reproduced - This is an original antique. An estate sale find. Approximately 8 1/2" in diameter.
