Description: Here is a recent estate find. This is a Rare Antique 19th Century "Named" Victorian Ceremonial Fraternal KNIGHTS OF PYTHIAS Uniformed Rank Dress Sword with Scabbard, Circa 1880. This Has a Wire Wrapped Leather Handle with Oval Badge "U.R and Lily" Cross Guard with a Griffin on Either Side, in High Relief. The Reverse Has FCB, for the Pythian Motto "Friendship, Charity, Benevolence". The U.R. is For Uniformed Rank, and the Symbol of a Full Knight! This is an Early Sword, as They Eventually Got Rid of the Uniformed Rank. The Blade is Etched with the Former Owner's Name "C.G. Higgins". The Blade is Signed by the Maker on the Base "Pettibone Mfg. Co. Cincinnati". This Has a Knights Head Pommel with Lion, and Ornate Steel Scabbard with Applied Decorative Trim, and Fancy Tip. The Sword measures approx. 37" Long with a 30" Blade. The Length Of The Sword in the Scabbard is Approx. 40" Long. This is Over a Hundred and Fifty Years Old, and in Good Condition with Normal Wear From Age and Use!!! The Knights Of Pythias Did Not Produce Many Uniformed Rank Swords, So This is Extremely Rare!!! I haven't seen one like this before, and You probably Won't Find One Again!!!
