Description: Description 0012209 Rare c1880s Antique Ironstone Platter with Portrait of Actress Lillie LangtryA rare antique Ironstone Platter or Serving Dish. The Platter is decorated with a highly detailed transfer design of Actress Lillie (Lily) Langtry. Langtry, born Emilie Charlotte Le Breton (1853 – 1929) was celebrated in society as a young woman of beauty and charm, who later became an actress and producer. She was the subject of widespread public and media interest and was involved with the top hostesses of society. This lovely platter has a portrait of Lillie in an embroidered gown trimmed with pearls, her name is on the bottom left. The platter is signed by the maker on the back, I cannot decipher the words. The Platter dates from the 1880s or so, it measures 11" x 16 3/8". It is in very good overall condition with no chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs. The only thing to note is the typical crazing to the glaze and one small clam shell shaped line on the bottom right corner, see photos. The Platter would be perfect in an antique Theater, Ironstone or Victorian inspired decor, it is a very unusual antique item.
