The play opened on May 24, 1966 at the Winter Garden Theatre and ran for 1508 performances. She later won Tony Awards for Dear World (1969), Gypsy (1975) and Sweeney Todd (1979). Murder, She Wrote (1984-1996), which starred Lansbury as a best-selling novelist-turned-amateur sleuth, debuted Sept. 30, 1984 and was the highest-rated drama series on TV for a record nine straight seasons (1985-1994).
