His approach to film imagery and structure changed the idiom forever, earning him legions of fans worldwide and influencing an entire generation of directors. The Academy will honor the achievements and the artistry of Fellini with a gala tribute, featuring excerpts from a dozen films and personal appearances by many of his friends and admirers. Invited guests include Sophia Loren, Martin Scorsese, Anthony Quinn, Carlo Ponti, and John Landis. Film clips will be screened from the following Fellini classics: I Vitelloni, La Strada, The Nights of Cabiria, La Dolce Vita, 8 1/2, Juliet of the Spirits, Amarcord, The City of Women, Ginger and Fred and Intervista. This Tribute is the inaugural evening for a series of events taking place at the Academy and elsewhere in Los Angeles this fall, all related to the work of Federico Fellini. Guests for the Tribute will preview the new exhibition "Fellini/Los Angeles" in the Academy Galleries; a portion of the exhibition will also be presented at the Italian Cultural Institute. The evening will kick off a month-long retrospective of Fellini's work, featuring 23 newly restored films at the UCLA Film and Television Archive's Melnitz Theater. All the prints were restored, reprinted and subtitled by Cinecitta International with the support of the presidenza del consiglio dei Ministri-Departmento dello Spettacolo: IllyCaffe official sponsor.
