Description: partial split pair Amia scutata fish fossil from Florissant, Colorado. Amias otherwise known as "bowfins" are a warm water predatory species of fish. I acquired this piece from an extensive old collection in Denver Colorado. I met a very old gentleman who was trying to sell off his life long collection of fossils. We purchased everything he had including this nice Amia. The Florissant fossil beds date back to 35 million years ago during the late Eocene time period.
