This is one from the collection. To view the others from this collection simply search my store for the words " Cornely lace " This textile is from France and dates form the late 1800's to early 1900's ~ C1890 a beautiful whitework hand embroidered Cornelli lace work . This textile is a bed canopy, or Ciel de lit topper ! ~ So picture a sheet and then near one end, there is a little valance that would have slipped around the wooden structure. It's it an AMAZING textile, I've never seen another like it. Extraordinarily densely embroidered ~ Entirely hand stitched onto a fine Indian muslin ground and hand embroidered in cotton with trailing floral motifs worked in chain stitch. I love the many patterns these reveal~ This textile is elegant and rare ~ These textiles were highly popular in France in the 19th and early 20th century. Because they are so light , they do not often survive without signs of time and use ~ These curtains were most often used as bed hangings ~ MEASUREMENTS : This lovely textile measures : 72 inches by 88 inches for the large rectangular piece and the valances that are stitched onto the back measures 14 inches long on 3 sides ~ CONDITION ~ I've hand washed this charming textile and it's ready to use . This textile is in one of the best conditions in the collection.
