Description: All Shook Up: Elvis Day-by-day, 1954-77 (Rock & roll reference series) by Cotten, L. (1985) Hardcover Very Good condition overall, see photos. Lee Cotten's ALL SHOOK UP is a day-by-day breakdown of all aspects of Presley's career. While this may seem excessive to non-Elvis fans, quite the opposite is the case. Until the advent of Crawdaddy in 1966 and Rolling Stone in 1967, record collectors (like me!) with more than a fannish interest in rock music (like me!) had little access to info on what was happening in the world of rock & roll. The period 1954-59 is especially interesting historically as Mr. Cotten reprints previews, reviews, comments, and advertisements from Billboard, Cash Box, and other publications of the time. These items gives the reader a sense of how RCA sold Elvis and how the established industry responded not only to Presley but to the new-fangled 'rock and roll music' in general. The book features several important appendixes, including a chronological listing of each of Presley's personal appearances from 1954 through 1977. (Posthumous sightings are, alas, ignored). Most important is a detailed listing of each of Elvis' records appearances on various Billboard surveys on a week-by-week basis (including the rarely noted EP chart of 1957-59)
