Description: Albuquerque, NEW MEXICO - Travel Lodge Motel - Route 66 - ROADSIDE AMERICA 1958: Roadside America cards represent the various diners, drive-ins, motels, and tourist attractions that sprung up along highways as Americans and Canadians took to the Road in large numbers during the 1930’s and beyond. These cards were both sold and given away for advertising. It is a true North American genre. U.S. Route 66 or U.S. Highway 66 (US 66 or Route 66) was one of the original highways in the United States Numbered Highway System. It was established on November 11, 1926, with road signs erected the following year. The highway, which became one of the most famous roads in the United States, ran from Chicago, Illinois, through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona before terminating in Santa Monica in Los Angeles County, California, covering a total of 2,448 miles (3,940 km). Route 66 in New Mexico was marked over portions of two auto trails — the National Old Trails Road from Arizona via Albuquerque and Santa Fe to just shy of Las Vegas, and one of the main routes of the Ozark Trails network from that point into Texas. This Photochromatic postcard of the Travel Lodge in Albuquerque, published in 1958, Is in good condition. Curteichcolor – 3D Natural Color. No. 8C-K418.
