The Neurdein Freres, Louis-Antonin (1846-1915+) and Etienne (1832-1918) hold an important milestone in the history of French photography. Sons of the French photographer Charlet (Jean César Adolphe Neurdein 1806-1867) they opened their own studio in Paris in 1863 at 52 Avenue de Breteuil. They became well known for their portraits by Etienne as well as their topographical views by Louis-Antonin. In 1889 they were awarded several prizes for their documentation of the Paris Expositions Universelle of 1889 and 1900. In addition, they became the caretakers of the archives of the Service des Monuments historiques (see Donald Rosenthal in John Hannavy's, Encyclopedia of Nineteenth Century Photography). Eventually they merged with Levy to become Levy et Neurdein reunis, at 44 rue Letellier, Paris into the 1920s. Send questions. We are currently listing a diverse selection of photography and art.
