Description: Ailanthus (Tree-of-Heaven) seed fossil from the Lindgren Quarry near Kemmerer Wyoming. After sinking to the bottom of Fossil Lake, this organism was slowly buried by sediment. The remains were flattened and compressed by the accumulating mud. This squeezed the volatile elements from the soft tissue leaving only a carbon film reminder.
