Description: Couture-level design and detail abounds in this luxe, artist-created Ankara children’s dress top. An eye-popping African bead necklace print dances over the fitted cobalt bodice, which is bisected by a chunky, full-length zipper with an embossed seagull pull. Continuing and expanding the bead theme, an absolutely staggering portrait collar composed of individual, red and white patterned, hand- attached fabric “ beads” frames the face as stunningly as anything found in an Old Masters painting. The drama continues on the back, where a net- covered brown print at the nape foreshadows a sassy black tulle bustle framed by a giant fabric bow and surrounded by small cascades of the red and white fabric beads we see on the collar. The quality level is truly almost bespoke. Fully lined in cobalt waxed cotton, the inner sleeve seams are so meticulously bound in contrasting fabric that I thought the piece was reversible. It’s not -the tip-off was the now-removed label - but the finish level is staggering. If this all sounds like a lot, it is - in the best possible sense. This is truly a unique piece, suitable for occasions, fashion shoots or portraiture. I have shown the measurements in the photos.
