Description: Hyman George Rickover [1900 1986] was a United States Navy admiral and naval pioneer who directed the original development of naval nuclear propulsion and controlled its operations for three decades as director of the Naval Reactors along with overseeing the development of the Shippingport Atomic Power Station, which was the world's first commercial pressurized water reactor. Admiral Rickover began his military career in 1918 and is known as the ''Father of the Nuclear Navy'', which has produced over 200 nuclear powered submarines, 23 nuclear powered aircraft carriers and cruisers. On November 16, 1973, Rickover was promoted to a four-star admiral after 51 years of commissioned service and was the longest serving naval officer in U.S history with 63 years of active duty. Listed for auction is a [TLS] typed letter signed by admiral Hyman George Rickover on the letterhead of the USS GLENARD P. LIPSCOMB [SSBN 685] and dated At sea, North Atlantic 30 September 1974. The letter is addressed to a Miss Pierotti with good content, he speaks about the successful completion of the first sea trials of the newly commissioned nuclear submarine and the ships namesake. The letter is nicely signed ''H.G Rickover'' in black pen above his typed name. The letter measures 8.00 x 10.50 inches and other then the expected mail fold the letter is in fine condition and will be accompanied with its original transmittal envelope. The autograph is authentic, and the letter is a desirable example of this prominent naval pioneer and is ideal for display.
