Traveling Bags NYC 1895 Billhead to Townsend Young (Sing Sing) Townsend Young, Later known for a time as Townsend, Young and Sons, was a clothier that had a store in Sing Sing* (Ossining) NY as early as 1865, His early clients were predominantly individuals, who paid cash for many types of clothing, cloth, tailor work, and sewing tools. He also rented Singer sewing machines and eventually had at least 3 other locations. Over the years, several former employees of this business went on to open their own clothing / tailoring business. After a mostly successful 100+ year run, Young went out of business in 1971. *Until 1901, the village of Ossining was known as Sing Sing. It changed its name to avoid the stigma of association with Sing Sing Correctional Facility, which is still Ossining's largest employerShowing mostly minor signs of wear and handling consistent with its age.
