Description: A FAREWELL TO ARMS, by Ernest Hemmingway-Published by Scribner First Edition, 1st Printing,1929 Hemmingway's master work based on his experiences during the first world war was released by Scribner's in 1929 with a first printing of 31,000. This is one of those. This book belonged to the Berkshire News Co., and may have been used as their review copy. They stamped the front page and glued a half tone press photo of Hemmingway inside the front cover. Quite a unique touch. Berkshire News was a news service much like AP, that also owned at least one newspaper in PA.The subsequent printings of this first edition are stated on the copyright page, so this one is clearly a first printing. This copy appears to have been read by many people. It has some grime on the cover but it looks much better in person, the photo really makes the grime pop. The spine is intact but well worn, and the back end paper has separated, as shown in the last picture. It also appears to have been chewed a bit by some sort of small animal as shown in the second to last picture. No musty odors.
