It can also be charred and put into whiskey barrels to add a different flavor. French Oak is a very dense wood and is difficult to cut/chip. It is sold by weight, not by volume. 8 oz. of stave shavings to fit into the shipping package. I suggest Toasting/Baking/Charring of the shavings to get more flavor. The inside of a wine barrel is usually toasted, but not all shavings come from that one side of the stave so toasting/charring to your desired level is recommended. The wood is clean, pesticide/chemical and bug free. There are no toxins in the French Oak wood and it can be used for heat and food/drink. It comes from single use French Oak barrels that were used to age wine. They have nice color and red wine infusion into the wood. The wood has an amazing smell when cutting or burning.
