Description: Listed artist Robert Schuyler Van Rensselaer made this DIY comic book when he was a child. Real comic books wouldn't exist for another 25 years, so he had to make his own. I was planning to fix it up before listing it, but I've come to appreciate it as-is. The oldest pages (from 1908) have excess paste smeared everywhere, and while that could be easily cleaned using a damp cotton rag, I think the sloppiness is a cool indication of his age. He would've been 9 years old in 1908 and he must've slowly added to the book over time because the pasting gets progressively better. I didn't remove the wrinkles for the same reason - the oldest pages are most wrinkled because he would've read those the most, and at the youngest age. Some of the stitching is missing, apparently having been removed by young Van so that he could add more pages/leaves.
