Description: Lot of 60 Frescoes From the Sistine Chapel Ceiling Sterling Silver Coins .925. Made in 1970 by the Franklin Mint. Everything was tested with a Sigma. Beautiful complete collection of sterling silver rounds in a great display book. Some have beautiful toning and many are nearly flawless with an excellent shine. Great vintage silver!! The coin I weighed has 1.233OZT of pure silver. That puts the whole book has about 74OZT of pure silver. In 1976, The Franklin Mint issued a set of sixty 925-Sterling-silver medallions they titled "The Genius of Michelangelo." The coins were bound in a leather-like volume with ten coins per page. Each 45mm coin features a design that commemorates a well-known work of art by the great Renaissance master on the obverses. The reverses have the title of the piece surrounding a geometric web-like design centered on a small bas-relief of Michelangelo's head. Research indicates that The Franklin Mint acquired the first 29 or 30 coin designs and struck coins in the purchase of another minting operation, then struck the remainder of the set in their own facility. Those latter strikes were coated by Franklin Mint to prevent tarnishing, while the first portion were not. Hence, the first 29 items in this set have developed some beautiful toning but those in the latter portion are bright and shiny. All 60 coins are in otherwise great condition. The thick leatherette-like cardboard pages all turn smoothly with no cracking, and all the coins are securely mounted, ten to a page. The page are titled at the top, and the medallions are arranged in two columns of five rows with the name of the represented artwork and the location of that artwork are listed in the margins to the left and right.
