Description: 6 Antique/Vintage Early American Pressed Glass Sherry / Cordial Glasses SET These sturdy, attractive little glasses are both useful and have a history! At 4 1/8 inches high they are small but not tiny - just the right size for sherry, cognac or cordials. They have a short stem with an easy to hold central "gemstone" and clear thumbprint panels for an interesting optic effect. They are exceptionally heavy, bright and clear - and about a century old! How do we know? They have a quality that helps date them - they are manganese glass! Manganese was used in early-century glass recipes for the brightness and clarity it imparted, but it had to be diverted to war use at the outbreak of WWI. It is not commonly seen in glass produced beyond about 1915-18, (though some were made containing scrap glass later on) so it is very likely these little glasses date to 1918 or earlier. Manganese glass, though it glows green under 365nm black light, is not radioactive and is considered completely safe to use. It is starting to be used again in recipes by some high-end glassmakers but it does have one disadvantage; it should be stored out of direct sunlight to prevent purpling. Very good antique/vintage condition, no chips or cracks, but bubbles within the the glass as is expected with imperfect early century pressed glass production. You will need a magnifying glass to see these flaws. The glass is heavy, bright and clear. Clean, hand washed and ready to use or display. Shipped quickly and packed with great care. Shipping is determined by the post office based on your location and how many zones away you are from our MI location, and we do not mark it up. Default shipping is US Ground Advantage; a faster but a bit more expensive option - US Priority Mail - is also available when checking out, if you prefer. The Fine Print from Beautiful Things for You: Welcome! If you are here, you probably love vintage and antique glassware, too! We are enthusiasts, but not experts. We try to share as much background on the pieces as we can; but it is only informed opinion. Please take it as so. We love learning and welcome additional information if you have it! When possible, we include screen shots from reputable companies for pattern identification, but you will always receive the item pictured in our personal photos. We try very hard to find and point out any flaws _exactingly_ so you know what you are getting. Please read the description and look carefully at the photos - we will provide closeups of flaws, often circled, so you can evaluate them yourself. Photos are to be considered part of the description. We generally do not refer to flaws original to manufacture (i.e. bubbles, nubs, slubs) unless they are very distinctive. Vintage and antique items are by nature, old. They will have the marks and wear commensurate with their age; with antique items these indications of age are part of their beauty, and evocative of the passage of time. We will try to describe this wear carefully, but some wear is to be expected. Decorative photo materials such as silk flowers, trays, mirrors and etc. are not included unless this is expressly mentioned in the listing. They are there to help show vintage glassware and china can be repurposed, and displayed beautifully in many ways! Because of the practical difficulty of packing and shipping fragile glass items, we do not accept returns. Review all information carefully so you are sure of your purchase. We treat all of our customers with courtesy and respect; we welcome any contact if you feel your purchase has not lived up to your expectations. Please contact us before leaving neutral or negative feedback, and please be kind; feedback means a lot to us. Because we love vintage items, we pack glassware with the utmost of care, with multiple layers of bubble wrap, additional padding, and Fragile stickers. Breakage has been very, very rare, less than 1% of our shipments. However, we can't prevent rough handling, machine damage, or misdirection once the shipping service has it in their hands. Packages are insured for their sold price, excluding shipping costs, and all refunds due to breakage will be divided by the number of items in the package (i.e. no full refunds for one item broken out of a set.) Absolutely let us know if this happens! We will need photos of the broken item(s), packing and packaging before any insurance claim or refund. Note: we don't control shipping costs. Shipping is determined by weight, size, and how many zones you are away from our MI location. We do not charge handling fees. Shipping is often pre-calculated depending on weight and expected size; you will not pay more than estimated, but you may pay less. We not infrequently rebate back excess; you may see this as a partial refund message from eBay when we ship. If you have combined listings, we may switch to a shipping service better suited to large packages and will pass any savings along to you. We have noticed an uptick in misdirected shipments, and it's distressing for everyone when a package goes awry. We can only ship to verifiable addresses. If you have not received your package, check the tracking information eBay sends to you. Please let us know if it has gone a week past the delivery date; each package is important to us but we may not have noticed. If it's listed "in transit" by the shipping service, it's on its way, but there's no way for us to make it go faster! But please notify us if this is happening. Thank you for looking at our items! We hope if you are interested in unique, sustainable, heirloom quality crystal, ceramics and glassware, you have found something here you love!
