Description: Brilliant and intriguing vintage mid century, c1940s/950s, original oil painting. Depicts a Dali-esque postimpressionist /Surrealist town village landscape scene complete with structures and figures. This is a really well executed piece with pleasing lines and soft brushstrokes. Impeccable detail and technical skill. Medium is oil on canvas; canvas affixed to stretcher bars with nails as opposed to staples. Signed by the artist in the bottom left corner; looks to read Vandenmende although I was unable to reference the artist so I could have the spelling wrong. Quite worthy of further research. Framed in a contemporary gold gilded molded wood frame and ready to hang. Provenance comes from a Connecticut estate. In Very Good overall condition. Crisp with only gentle signs of soiling and wear as well as some cracking to the top left corner. No holes, rips, tears or indents. Frame is clean with one blemish to the bottom left. Eye catching and appealing. Displays handsomely. Measures 16” x 12” and 19 1/2” x 15 1/2” with the frame.
