HE AND HIS WIFE MADGE STARRED AT THE HAYMARKET IN SHAKESPEAREAN REVIVALS AND THE OLD ENGLISH COMEDIES BEGINNING IN THE 1860S. IN THE 1870S, THEY STARRED IN A SERIES OF "FAIRY COMEDIES" BY W. S. GILBERT AND IN MANY PLAYS ON THE WEST END WITH THE BANCROFTS AND OTHERS. IN THE 1880S, THEY STARRED AT AND JOINTLY MANAGED (WITH JOHN HARE) THE ST. JAMESS THEATRE. THEY THEN ENJOYED A LONG TOURING CAREER. AUTOGRAPH SAYS "FAITHFULLY YOURS" DAME MADGE KENDAL -GBE- (MARCH 15 1848 - SEPTEMBER 14 1935) BORN AS MARGARET SHAFTO ROBERTSON, WAS AN ENGLISH ACTRESS OF THE VICTORIAN AND EDWARDIAN ERAS, BEST KNOWN FOR HER ROLES IN SHAKESPEARE AND ENGLISH COMEDIES. TOGETHER WITH HER HUSBAND, W. H. KENDAL, SHE BECAME AN IMPORTANT THEATRE MANAGER. FELIX MORRIS (1845-1900) WAS BORN IN ENGLAND AND STUDIED MEDICINE BEFORE DECIDING TO PURSUE A CAREER ON THE STAGE. HE CAME TO THE U.S., SUPPORTING HIMSELF OCCASIONALLY AS A DRUGSTORE CLERK. HE BECAME A MEMBER OF EUGENE MCDOWELLS AND GEORGE FAWCETT ROWES COMPANIES IN THE 1870S, TOURING IN THE U.S. AND CANADA. IN THE 1880S HE FORMED HIS OWN TOURING COMPANY, ADAPTING PLAYS SUCH AS MONA(1885) FOR ACTRESS HELENE DAUVRAY, AND THE PAVEMENTS OF PARIS (1884), STARRING HIMSELF. BY 1890 HE WAS A MEMBER OF ROSINA VOKES LONDON COMEDY COMPANY. AFTER HER DEATH IN EARLY 1894 HE FORMED HIS OWN COMPANY AGAIN, WRITING AND ADAPTING PLAYS, SUCH AS THE OLD MUSICIAN (1891).
