Crafted in Japan, this guitar was made exclusively for the Japanese domestic market, uncommon outside its country of origin and long ago discontinued. The guitar has a lively, balanced natural acoustic tone, and the original ceramic magnet pickups have more punch and power than the typical alnico magnet design, sounding distinct and clear in all positions on the five-way switch. Weighing 7lbs 3oz, this Strat has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a quintessential medium C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .855" deep at the 1st fret and .950" at the 12th. The fretboard has a vintage spec 7 1/4" radius, and the slender fretwire only exhibits a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-3. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width. The headstock features a traditional small Pre-CBS Strat shape with Kluson-style Gotoh tuning machines that have the correct vintage look, turn smoothly, and hold pitch well. The "Crafted in Japan" text and Q-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate. All of the electronics work as they should, and the ceramic magnet pickups are cleanly wired to the stock Japanese harness and five-way pickup selector switch. The vibrato has a full-size diecast block, and the unit is very responsive for smooth surfy warbles and deeper dives. The chrome hardware has plenty of shine with just a faint dusting of patina on the saddles, and plastics include the uniformly yellowed pickup cover and knobs and a one-ply white pickguard. The gloss Ocean Turquoise Metallic finish is particularly rich and saturated, pushing towards Sherwood Green. Cosmetic wear includes two finish chips along the back treble-side body edge, a small cluster of marks where the forearm crosses the top, and a few faint scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered gloss. A faux leather gigbag is included.
