You are bidding on 20 JAPANESE STRIPED BARK MAPLE SEEDS - Acer rufinerve. Also known as snake-bark maple , grey snake-bark maple , redvein maple . Plant description: This is a medium-sized tree-like shrub or small tree that grow slowly to reach 45' - 15 m in height. This remarkable maple is certainly one of the highlights of a garden in winter. The striking, white, stripes on the stems and branches is due to waxes accumulating in longitudinal fissures of the expanding bark. With time the striping disappears as the bark becomes corky. Leaves broadly oval, 3-lobed, yellow and red in autumn adding to its usefulness as a garden plant. Flowers yellow, in erect racemes . The fruit is a woody samara (winged and typical for a maple) with multiple seeds growing along a long 8" stem with a rounded nutlet and one of the tiniest maple seeds I have seen , about 1/4". Range: Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, Yakushima, Japan Prefers sun/partial shade in well-drained soil. Hardy to -10 degrees. USDA zone 6.
