The siding and trim is in its natural state -- no staining or finishes have been applied so it can be personalized to your liking. Pre-stain/finishing is available for additional cost. Installing Tongue-and-Groove Log SidingThe first course of siding will need to be face nailed or screwed at the bottom and then also blind nailed at the tongue. The blind nail gets placed just in front of the tongue and is angled down and back at a 45 degree angle with the nail head set flush so it does not hold the next piece up. For best results use galvanized "splitless" siding nails. These have thin shanks and blunt points to reduce the chance of splitting. For greater holding power, nails with ring shanks or spiral threaded shanks can also be used. Some installers choose to drive small-headed, stainless steel or coated screws instead of nails. The use of a power nail gun or stapler with exterior grade fasteners may also be used. Pre-drilled holes for hand nails and screws may be a necessary precaution against splitting the siding. It is recommended that a bead of quality, flexible, exterior sealant be placed along the back of the joints and around windows and doors to seal. The Uses! This is a great product for either a new home construction or for an existing home remodel project. It can be used on the exterior of your modular or prefabricated home, garage, cabin, barn, shed, etc. Or use it on your interior walls of your home, cabin, basement, etc. Everyone knows the great insulation value that wood can give. How to Figure How Much You Will Need It takes 1.78 linear feet to cover 1 square foot and the calculation is simple: If 100 square foot is needed, multiply 100 by 1.78, this will equal 178 - the amount of linear feet needed. To determine square footage: Multiply the total perimeter measurement by the wall height. Remember to add some for waste, which will vary from job to job. Normally figuring 10% for walls and 15% for gables is recommended. If there are a few windows and doors in the wall, usually you can figure the wall square footage and ignore the windows and doors and this will give you the extra you will need. Subtract off any large areas such as garage doors and picture windows by figuring out the square foot of each and subtracting this off the total square footage. For gable ends square footage can be figured easily by multiplying the width at the bottom by the height from the eve or top of the wall up to the peak and divide by 2. Don't forget to add at least 15% for waste because of the angles. If there are two gables, skip dividing by 2 and you have both ends. If you have any questions, please email and I can help figure this out.
