Description: For sale is a pair (2) of similar-design vintage Chinese soapstone carvings of a "Foo Dog" (Lion-Dog) standing on a hollowed-out carved stone ball/globe, placed on a stone pedestal. "Foo Dogs" are mythical Chinese "guardian lion dogs". These soapstone carvings are in excellent/pristine condition - no chips, cracks or repairs. Very nice quality with stunning intricate details, especially on the hollowed out carved "ball"/globe. The head is mounted on a "bobble" spring. The asking price is for ONE of them. You may buy both for a 10% discount and save on shipping to the same address. This rare hand-made soapstone carving of a similar design is about 6.5" tall x 3" wide x 2" deep (including the stone pedestal base). One is slightly shorter than the other. Since these are hand-made, there's also some slight variation in the stone color patterns. I bought these artwork souvenirs from a local artist during from my visit to Xiamen, Fujian Province, China in the mid-1980's, shortly after China opened up to the outside world. The words on the (base) pedestal refers to Jimei Ao Garden, in Jimei, Xiamen Province. It's unlikely you'll ever find other items like this. Thess artwork had been displayed after I returned home for a brief period. But it had been stored away for a few decades. The photos are of the actual item.
