Description: Please email with any questions. Two original, unpublished, amateur photographs taken in California in 1894 while visiting the Midwinter Fair in San Francisco. The photos are adhered to the cardboard page of a family photo album, one per page, front and back side. The format is 4" by 5" and the photos are trimmed slightly from that measurement. Someone in the family carefully & artistically wrote captions under the photos in ink. I have no family history for the images.""in China Town" and "A Mission Door, San Diego". I am not sure what technique was used for the photos, but think these might be albumen prints on glossy paper. We are so spoiled by the ease of modern photography- especially since most of us carry a camera in our phone. I imagine that carrying the camera and plates that took these in 1894 was a burden for the photographer.Please see our other antique California photos from the same album.
