Description: Original 1st Edition hand-coloured Geological Map Lanarkshire Sheet 9, covering the Harthill, Kirk of Shotts and Forrestburn areas, on a scale of Six Inches to One Statute Mile. The map was geologically surveyed by the pioneers of the British Geological Survey, Sir Archibald Geikie and his brother James, and published in 1874 by Sir Andrew Crombie Ramsay (Director General). The map itself is on thick parchment type paper and measures approximately 91cm x 61cm, with titles, notes, legends and scale bar on the wide margins. The whole sheet measures approximately 96cm x 66cm. The map has several small tears around the margins and a section towards the top left is missing (see photos).
