Description: Maker: This lovely large antique ironstone serving platter is by the iconic English china maker Minton. The impressed word "Minton" is on the back along with several impressed numbers and a round blue printed mark that identifies the pattern as Woodseat. The Minton mark was in use from 1862 to 1872, when it was changed to "Mintons". Another impressed mark also appears; it is probably a date cipher but could not be identified. Design: Woodseat features a center design of a large urn or vase. This is the blue version of Woodseat, which was also produced in red. Size: The platter is 17 1/2 inches long, 13 3/4 inches wide and 1 3/8 inches deep. It weighs 4 pounds 4 ounces. Condition: It has no nicks, chips, cracks or repairs. There is wear to the edges and several sections of age-related discoloration. The rim has darkened and there is significant crazing throughout, as expected in a platter of this age and material. There are many faint utensil marks that can be seen in bright light. Please check all the photos very carefully – they are an important part of the description.
